The effect of various concn. of malefic hydrazide and malefic hydrazide-growth regulators interactions on growth of sprouts and roots of garlics were studied. Roots were grown for 10 days at 20℃, and root tips (0.5㎜) were excised for determination of sugar, amino acids and nucleic acids.
Growth of sprouts and roots were more inhibited with increasing the concn of MH.
No obvious differences showed in the content of free amino acids and sugar of root tips, but nucleic acids (DNA & RNA) is decreased in high concn of MH. Addition of IAA, NAA, IBA and GA were not affected to overcome the inhibitory action of maleic hydrazide, however, only kinetin promoted the growth of sprouts as much as control. There is no competitive effects between maleic hydrazide and growth regulators on cell division of garlic roots.
